Think precision components, specialized assemblies, or job-based manufacturing with clear separation between batches. The method can deliver stronger margin visibility, but only if the inventory and production systems capture movements with discipline.

Document how materials are purchased, received, issued to production, adjusted for scrap, completed into finished goods, and sold. Then compare that process with the cost behavior currently visible in the ledger. Gaps usually appear quickly: duplicate stock records, late production postings, manual accruals, or inconsistent treatment of subcontracting costs.
After that, standardize item and transaction rules before expanding system automation. A modest, well-governed chart of accounts and inventory structure usually performs better than an overengineered model that staff cannot maintain. The goal is dependable month-end reporting, not maximum theoretical complexity.
